About J.H. Pitts
J.H. Pitts LLC, named after artist and owner LB Walstrom’s least favorite high school principal, Jim and the nickname they received in 4th grade, Hairy Pittsburgh, is a hand made, slow fashion brand based in Minneapolis, MN. Our goal is to create unique and inclusive clothing with a priority placed upon using second hand and recycled materials. Including highly detailed, handmade aspects to our products is made possible due to the (very!) small scale production. We approach each garment like a work of art, one such work that also serves a practical purpose, to be worn (and loved).
Founded in 2024 by LB Walstrom, J.H. Pitts is a one-person clothing brand. From sourcing materials, from pattern making, to sewing and marketing, it is all done in the Minneapolis, MN apartment of LB (with some help from their cat, Sherbie). In an effort to focus on sustainability, JHP uses mostly recycled materials, mainly thrifted and dead stock fabrics. Due to the inconsistencies of size charts, we use the exact measurements for each garment listed. While things are mostly 'one of a kind' due to the use of found materials, the patterns can be used again and again.
We're always open to custom pieces, be that making something in another size or color, or making something completely new! The pricing on custom items in the current line's pattern will stay consistent with pre-made ready to ship garments, completely new custom garments will be priced by material and labor costs.
Pricing
Our goal as a company is to be ethical in pricing for our business as well as our customer. This is what LB loves to do, and their goal is really just to pay their bills and keep being able to produce creative work to sell. Being transparent, we base pricing mainly on labor costs as many of our materials are on the less expensive side, and if something is more expensive, we will note that the cost of materials for that garment is higher. Based upon the Minneapolis, MN living wage according to the MIT living wage calculator, garments are priced on a $23/hr labor cost, which does not include sourcing materials, or pattern making, only the labor that goes into that direct garment.
For a custom patterned garment, if you are okay with the pattern being reproduced in other colors/styles later on after you have received it, we will waive the cost of the pattern making as it can be used again. If you would like a custom garment only to be produced once, the pattern making process will be part of the cost of the garment.
